President Donald Trump recently signed a new executive order imposing a 19 percent import charge on items from Pakistan. In an effort to safeguard American businesses, the US has implemented a new trade policy that targets imports from dozens of nations.
In addition to Pakistan, the United States has placed duties of 15% on Turkey, 20% on Vietnam, 25% on India, and 35% on Canada. Bangladesh (20%), Cambodia (19%), Sri Lanka (20%), and Thailand (20%) are among the other nations impacted.
Additional tariffs of 15% on Israel and Venezuela, 39% on Switzerland, 35% on Iraq, 15% on Japan, 40% on Laos and Myanmar, and 30% on Libya were announced by the White House.
Pakistan and many of the other impacted nations have not responded as of yet. Notwithstanding the tax, Pakistan's rate is still somewhat lower than that of a number of its regional rivals, a development that some analysts see as politically advantageous and a chance to draw in foreign investment given the state of US trade.
